Singapore Airlines has received a nod from TripAdvisor, as it was named the world's best airline by the popular travel review website. It joins 5 other Asian-based carriers in its second annual top ten airline listing.

The national carrier of Singapore beat out Air New Zealand (#2) and Emirates (#3). The other airlines that follow the top three carriers are in the exact order: Japan Airlines (JAL), EVA Air, Jet2.com, Qatar Airways, Azul and Korean Air.

Along with being named the best airline, it also got recognition as the best First Class and Economy service. Qatar Airways took the award for the Best Business Class, while Air New Zealand took the award for Best Premium Economy service.

“The award is a validation of the hard work and dedication of our thousands of staff all around the world, who focus their attention every day on ensuring that Singapore Airlines remains competitive on a global level,” Singapore Airlines’ CEO Goh Choon Phong said.

The selection and awarding of TripAdvisor's top airline is part of the travel review website's Travelers’ Choice Awards. It is based on airline reviews collected by TripAdvisor Flights or a TripAdvisor review collection partner during the time period of February 2017 to February 2018. First introduced in 2016, travellers can review and rate airline service factoring in cleanliness, customer service, food and beverage, legroom, value for money, in-flight entertainment, seat comfort and check-in and boarding.

TripAdvisor's rating is among the growing groups of airline-review sites, each with slightly different approaches which including surveys and actual reviewers onboard flights. Recently Skytrax named Qatar Airways the best airline in its 2018 ratings, while Conde Nast Traveler magazine picked Air New Zealand as its No. 1 last year.
