As China's new mega-airport begins to take shape, a new opening date has been announced for Beijing's new international airport.

According to the city government, the new airport will officially begin operations on October 1, 2019.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China said on Tuesday that it will encourage airline companies to operate in the new airport and will provide full support for companies wanting to become international airlines, as more of such airlines will ease the international flight burden.

The city of Beijing has two airports that are used for commercial flights - Beijing Capital International Airport and Beijing Nanyuan Airport. The new Daxing airport will be the third airport which local officials, and will help ease the congestion at Beijing Capital airport.

When opened, the new airport will completed high speed railways, subway, and trains links to urban areas around Beijing. Flights from China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines are expected to be moved to the new airport as both airlines new hub in the city.
