Singapore Airlines has been named 2019’s Best Airline by industry safety and product rating website AirlineRatings.com, edging out Air New Zealand, Qantas, and Qatar Airways. The Singaporean flag carrier takes the top spot after Air New Zealand held the highest ranking for the last five years, following taking the Skytrax award for the airline of the year for 2018.

AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas commented: “In our objective analysis Singapore Airlines came out number one in many of our audit criteria, which is a great performance.” Thomas added: “One of the standouts in the industry for decades it has returned to its best with a new product, new aircraft and new innovative flights such as the Singapore-New York non-stop. Quite simple the airline is the Gold Standard.”

The AirlineRatings.com Airline Excellence Awards, judged by seven editors with over 200 years’ industry experience, combines important safety and government audits, with 12 key criteria that include: fleet age, passenger reviews profitability, investment rating, product offerings, and staff relations.

For the other awards, other Asian full-service and low cost carriers were recognized by AirlineRatings.com. Philippine Airlines was recognized for the Most Improved Airline for 2019, while VietJet Air took the best Ultra Low cost Airline Award. AirAsia took the top spot for the Best Low Cost Carriers Award for the Asia/Pacific.
