AirAsia will be launching a new destination in Japan, connecting Kuala Lumpur to Fukuoka starting on February 28.

The route will be operated by long-haul affiliate AirAsia X using Airbus A330 aircraft, marking the fifth destination in Japan for the AirAsia group and the fourth connection to Japan from Kuala Lumpur.

Subject to government approval, AirAsia will operate flights between the two cities four times a week departing Kuala Lumpur in the late evening. The return flights from Fukuoka will depart the follow morning.

AirAsia X Malaysia CEO Benyamin Ismail said: “With over six million guests flown since we started operating into the country in 2010, Japan remains a very important market for us. We look forward to the commencement of this route early next year which will strengthen the bilateral ties between Malaysia and Japan while bringing the world to Fukuoka through our extensive network in the region,” added Benyamin.
