Malaysian low cost brand AirAsia will launch an additional service to Tokyo through its long haul subsidiary AirAsia X. It will launch a new flight between Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo-Narita.

According to Routesonline, the new Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo-Narita flights by AirAsia X will start on November 20 and operate on a four-times weekly schedule. The route was previously served by the AirAsia group until 2015, and will complement the existing daily AirAsia X flights from Kuala Lumpur to Haneda.

In an Instagram post, AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail stated: “Our guests can now fly from Kuala Lumpur to Tokyo, Japan, either through Narita Airport or Haneda Airport, giving them more flexibility on flight times and connectivity.” Ismail also noted the growing interest of inbound tourism to Japan saying: “These new services are in response to overwhelming consumer demand and ahead of what will be a big year for Tokyo tourism in 2020.

For the Tokyo area, AirAsia operates daily flights to Bangkok’s Don Mueang and Kuala Lumpur from both of the city’s airports – Haneda and Narita - operated by both Thai AirAsia X and AirAsia X. Combined, the AirAsia group has more than 28 weekly departures from the Tokyo area.
