Indonesia's Lion Air affiliate in Thailand will suspend operations amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The carrier made the decision and statement to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) that it will suspend flights between March 25 and May 1, grounding its 17 aircraft fleet. It will affect its 13 domestic and 30 international routes.

Among the reasons cited in media reports for the suspension of operations include the reduced travel demand especially to/from the lucrative market of China.

Employees were informed about the decision via email, and the last working day for cabin crew will be March 31.

Thai Lion Air will still keep pilots on payroll, but will cut pay by 40%.
