As part of its efforts to recover from the aviation demand downturn amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore Airlines announced a set of new initiatives named “Discover Your Singapore Airlines” which include dining aboard a superjumbo jet or ordering in-flight meals to be enjoyed at home.

The first highlight initiative will be Restaurant A380 @ Changi which will offer customers a dining experience aboard one of its Airbus A380 superjumbos. Diners will be able to choose from a menu for meals for each cabin class on two dates it will operate: October 24 and 25. The airline will also offer pre-lunch tours of the largest aircraft of Singapore Airlines' fleet.

Along with Restaurant A380, the airline will also be able to order-in a Singapore Airlines in-flight dining experience through what the airline calls SIA@Home.

For families, children, and students, the airline will open its facilities for behind-the-scenes tours which will run in late October.

With the announcement, the airline also addressed earlier-reported plans for operating “flights-to-nowhere” as other regional airlines have done. Regarding the idea, the airline has shelved it saying it “was also initially considered but not pursued after the review. “

“With Covid-19 drastically reducing the number of flights operated by the SIA Group, we have created unique activities that would allow us to engage with our fans and customers during this time. These experiences offer something for everyone – from frequent fliers who miss our world-class in-cabin products and service, to couples and families who want an exclusive dining experience, and parents who are after an enjoyable activity-filled day with their children during the school holidays,” said Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer Mr Goh Choon Phong.

Phong also acknowledged the input received by the traveling public adding: “There has been a lot of interest in our customer engagement initiatives over the last few weeks, and I would like to thank everyone for their great ideas and suggestions. We are very encouraged by and grateful for the enthusiasm and passion that we have seen. All of us are eagerly looking forward to welcoming you to discover your Singapore Airlines.”
