As international aviation observers such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) expect the Chinese aviation industry to become the largest market in the world by the year 2020, the main Chinese airlines are placing orders for aircraft to meet the growing demands of domestic and international travel from the country.

One of the new opportunities for growth has been trans-continental travel, a market that has been long dominated by other Asian and Middle East carriers. As the likes of Emirates and Qatar Airways have long been known to offer connecting travel options for trans-continental travel, the main Chinese carriers are positioning themselves as a major player in long-distance travel.
