Ahead of the opening of the new passenger departure facilities at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Terminal 2 (T2) in late May, airport operator Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) announced that 15 airlines – including three AirAsia Group carriers, Cebu Pacific, IndiGo, Jeju Air, and VietJet  - will shift their check-in processing at the airport to T2 this summer.

Hong Kong Airlines will be the first airline to open their check-in counters at the newly renovated departure facilities at T2 on May 27. 14 more airlines will join Hong Kong Airlines through June 10 with HK Express being the last of the group.

The complete list of airlines that will shift their check-in processing to HKIA T2 are the following:

May 27: Hong Kong Airlines

May 28: AirAsia (Malaysia), Batik Air Malaysia, Hainan Airlines, Philippines AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air

June 2: Cambodia Airways, IndiGo, VietJet Air

June 3: Bangkok Airways, Greater Bay Airlines, Jeju Air

June 9: Cebu Pacific

June 10: HK Express

At the expanded T2, passengers will be able to use new generation smart check-in facilities. T2 will also be connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1.

Until the passenger concourse and boarding gates open (scheduled to be between late 2026 to early 2027) , travelers checking in for their flights at T2 will still board their flights at Terminal 1.

Part of work on HKIA's Third Runway System that started in 2016, the first phase of the new terminal saw the opening of the Coach Hall at T2 in September 2025. Work is ongoing to complete the T2 concourse and boarding gates, which will be connected to the soon-to-open departure facilities with a 2,600 meter long Automated People Mover. A new Baggage Handling System (BHS) between T2 and the T2 concourse is also being built.
