The parent company of All Nippon Airways (ANA) – ANA Holdings (ANA HD) – announced the completion of its acquisition of Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA), expanding its international network of passenger and freighter flights.

After obtaining approval from relevant authorities, ANA HD acquired the shares of the Japan-based cargo airline through a simplified share exchange with Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha on August 1. The airline will now be a wholly owned subsidiary of ANA HD.

Founded in 1978, NCA operates flights to 12 destinations around the world with a fleet of 8 Boeing 747-8F along with 7 leased 747-400F operated by other companies. Based at Tokyo Narita Airport, NCA has around 950 employees. The cargo carrier's network includes cities in Asia, the US, and Europe.

According to ANA HD, the integration of NCA's freighter network with ANA Group's international passenger and freighter flights will boost transport capacity between Japan and Asia, Europe, and the US. The enhancement will strengthen the Group's position as Japan's largest combination carrier (able to use passenger and cargo flights) as it becomes the world's 14thlargest airline group based on cargo transport weight (based on IATA World Air Transport Statistics 2024).

"The strategic integration of NCA's freighter network and specialized cargo expertise with the ANA Group's existing infrastructure will greatly improve our capability to serve our customers' needs," said Koji Shibata, President and CEO, ANA HD. "We are committed to leveraging this expanded capacity and combined knowledge to deliver exceptional value in our cargo transport solutions globally."

ANA Group stated it expects profibility to increase with the inclusion of NCA, as the strengthened cargo business will improve its resilience against market volatility and changes.

NCA will be the latest addition to the ANA Group, which includes ANA, budget carrier Peach, and AirJapan.
