All Nippon Airways (ANA) will revise and streamline its domestic boarding procedures and airport services from May 2026 to align its processes across its network.
The changes – scheduled to start from May 19, 2026 – will include updates to domestic online check-in and airport standby as the airline will integrate its domestic and international passenger service systems through late June 2026.
ANA has advised during the period, there may be temporary service restrictions due to some airports operating under different systems and procedures.
"ANA is aligning domestic boarding procedures and airport services with our international standards to create a unified experience across our network," said Koji Oka, Executive Vice President, Operations Support Center, ANA. "System integration will enhance the service experience through greater efficiency and consistency, while this standardization provides clearer, more intuitive processes aligned with passenger needs. These changes reflect ANA's commitment to delivering a more streamlined and reliable travel experience for everyone."
New Japan Domestic Flights Boarding from May 19, 2026
On a dedicated webpage, ANA highlighted the changes that will be made for passengers boarding domestic flights from May 19, 2026.
Confirmation numbers will no longer be used, replaced by the reservation number (6 alphanumeric characters) or 13-digit ticket number. Passengers' names must be registered in Hepburn romanization or the alphabet, and a birthday must be listed. For example, Japanese names such as 空野 太郎 must be written as SORANO/TARO.
Customers will enjoy a unified online check-in process for domestic and international flights. Re-check-in will no longer be required once a standby seat is confirmed. Passengers will be able to board directly with their updated boarding pass, and securing a new seat will automatically cancel the original reservation.
ANA's new “Conditions of Carriage for Passenger Baggage” will apply for domestic and international flights from May 19, 2026.
Due the renewal of fares in conjunction with the renewal of its domestic passenger service system, tickets for boarding on or before May 18, 2026 can't be used after the following day – May 19, 2026. Separate reservations will need to be made for any flight booked after May 19, 2026.
“If you wish to make changes due to personal reasons, please receive a refund and make a new reservation with your desired itinerary. A prescribed fee will be charged for refunds,” ANA wrote on the webpage.
ANA noted the airline will no longer handle open tickets, and those with current open tickets must use them by May 18, 2026. Flight coupons must be used in the sequence according to the ticket. Regarding the use of the flight segments, ANA used the example of a passenger traveling two flight segments – first Tokyo-Osaka and the second Osaka-Fukuoka.
“When the flight coupons for a ticket are sector 1 (Tokyo-Osaka), and sector 2 (Osaka-Fukuoka), you cannot use sector 2 before using sector 1.”
Infants traveling with adults will be reduced from up to 2 years to 1 year after May 19, 2026 (free of charge when infant on guardian's lap). Ages of children will be between 2-11 (currently 3-1 years old).
