ATR has announced its largest order for regional aircraft since 2017 by Taiwan-based EVA Air's subsidiary UNI Air.
UNI Air – which operates mostly domestic flights within Taiwan – has placed a firm order with ATR for 19 ATR-72-600s. The airline will also have three additional purchase rights.
According to ATR, the 19 ATR-72s will replace and expand UNI Air's current fleet of 14 ATR 72-600s. The aircraft will be powered by PW127XT engines, and feature an updated cabin design and a new air management system. Deliveries of the regional turboprop aircraft are scheduled between 2027 and 2032.
In a statement, Solomon Lin, Chairman, UNI Air said: “ ATR aircraft, renowned for their unbeatable economics, fuel efficiency, versatility and airport accessibility, have consistently proven to be the optimal platform for regional connectivity. As we continue to grow our operations, ATR remains our preferred partner, playing a key role in sustaining and strengthening Taiwan’s air network.”
Nathalle Tarnaud-Laude, Chief Executive Officer, ATR added: “We are delighted to renew our strategic partnership, supporting them in their expansion plans. UNI Air’s confidence in ATR is the strongest testament to the essential role our aircraft play in shaping efficient and sustainable regional aviation networks.”
Since its founding in 1988, UNI Air operates flights to 11 destinations including other cities beyond Taiwan's capital Taipei such as Taichung and Kaoshiung. The airline also operates flight services to nearby islands of Kinmen, Penghu, and Matsu. UNI Air also cooperates with parent company EVA Air through wet lease arrangements to operate regional flights within Asia and Mainland China.
