Air Canada announced it will launch a new seasonal service from Vancouver to Sapporo, Japan next winter – the first to Sapporo from the US or Canada by a North America-based airline.

The new winter seasonal Vancouver-Sapporo service will be operated three-times weekly during the North Winter 2026 season between December 17 and March 25, 2027. Every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, AC55 will depart Vancouver at 1325H and arrive in Sapporo at 1535H the following day. The return flight AC54 will depart Sapporo at 1955H and arrive back at Vancouver at 1110H.

Air Canada will use Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on the route featuring its Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy seats.

According to Mark Galardo, Air Canada's Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer, and President, Cargo, the new seasonal service will reduce travel time for those planning to travel to Sapporo from North America.

“Leveraging Vancouver’s geographic proximity, Air Canada’s new flights provide the fastest way to reach Sapporo, saving more than two hours travel time each way. For our customers in Hokkaido, Air Canada’s new flights provide the only non-stop and the fastest way to reach the North American continent, with connections to over 45 destinations across Canada, the United States and Mexico at our YVR hub,” Galardo said.

The new seasonal service to Sapporo will complement Air Canada's year-round flights to the two Tokyo-area hubs Narita and Haneda, and a summer seasonal service to Osaka-Kansai.
