Air Europa has completed the first wet-lease flight for Etihad Airways between Abu Dhabi and Madrid.

Operating daily as EY103 (return from Madrid operating as EY104), the first wet-lease flight departed Abu Dhabi on June 24. Using Air Europa's Boeing 787-9, the flights are also the Spanish carrier's first aircraft operation in the Middle East.

Air Europa's 787-9 features 339 seats (32 Business and 307 Economy). The wet-lease flights adds to the Abu Dhabi-based airline's other daily service (EY101/EY102) where Etihad uses its own 787-9 or 777 aircraft.

“Today marks a new chapter in our partnership with Air Europa,” said Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer, Etihad Airways. “This collaboration demonstrates how Etihad can work with strategic partners to enhance our Madrid route and offer even greater choice for travellers between the UAE and Spain.”

Juan Jose Hidalgo, President, Air Europa added: “Partnering with Etihad Airways to launch our first Middle East service from Abu Dhabi is a major milestone for Air Europa. It allows us to better serve growing demand for travel between Spain and the UAE. Abu Dhabi is a world-class destination and an ideal platform for us to expand into new markets.”

The collaboration between Etihad and Air Europa builds upon the two carriers' expanded codeshare agreement and frequent flyer program cooperation.
