The Cathay Group's all-cargo airline Air Hong Kong (AHK) recently retired its last Airbus A300 Freighter as it completed its re-fleeting program operating all Airbus A330 Freighters (A330F).
Air Hong Kong – which operates cargo flights on behalf of DHL Express – recently retired the last of its older A300-600F as part of its transition to the all A330F fleet started in 2018. The cargo carrier now operates a fleet of 14 A330F – including 10 A330-300P2F (passenger-to-freighter aircraft) and 4 A330-200F.
The A300-600F has been operated by Air Hong Kong for DHL Express since 2004. The cargo carrier states it has carried close to 3 million tonnes of cargo during its 21 years of its operation with the airline.
The newer A330F provides 25% more cargo capacity compared to the A330-600F. The aircraft also has a longer range of around 7,400 kilometers. Air Hong Kong stated the A330F will enable the airline to launch new routes to cities such as Bahrain and Sydney.
“The A300-600F has been a stalwart of Air Hong Kong’s fleet and an important part of our story for over two decades,” said Clarence Tai, Chief Operating Officer, Air Hong Kong. “Its contribution to not only our business, but to the Hong Kong international aviation hub as a whole, has been considerable and we fondly bid farewell to this valued member of our fleet as we enter this exciting new chapter.”
DHL Express Senior Vice President for Network Operations & Aviation – Asia Pacific Peter Bardens added: “The A300-600F was instrumental to our robust aviation network for many years. As we bid farewell to this valued member of our fleet, we are excited to welcome a new chapter with this new generation of freighters. We are confident that we will continue to deliver excellence in both our service capabilities and sustainability targets.”
Air Hong Kong currently operates scheduled and charter cargo flight services to 17 destinations in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Australia. The cargo carrier is a wholly owned by Cathay Pacific Airways Limited.
