Since February 14, Air India has deployed its three-class configured Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft featuring its Premium Economy seats on its Delhi-Tokyo Haneda route. According to the airline, 2408 seats will be added on the Delhi-Haneda route per month.
During the month of March, Air India will increase its flights on the Delhi-Toronto route from 7-times weekly to 10-times weekly.
Services will be increased on the Delhi-Seoul Incheon route from 5-times to 6-times weekly, and the newly launched Delhi-Shanghai Pudong route will see an increase from 4-times to 5-times weekly. 2048 seats will be added on each route per month.
Into the summer, Air India will replace the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft currently used on the Mumbai-London Heathrow route with the new 787-9 and retrofitted legacy 787-8 aircraft featuring all-new cabin interiors starting July 1.
On the same day, 777-300ER aircraft will be used on the daily Delhi-Melbourne flights. With the use of the tri-class 777-300ER – featuring 328 seats (8 First Class suites, 40 fully-flat Business Class seats, and 280 in Economy) – Air India will add nearly 4,000 seats per month between the two cities.
By August 1, Air India will use its retrofitted 787-8 aircraft on the Bengaluru-London Heathrow route. The 7-times weekly Delhi-Toronto flights will be operated with Air India's new 787-9 aircraft, while the other 3-times weekly flights will continue to see the use of the 777-300ER.
Air India's flights to Birmingham from Amritsar and Delhi and to London Gatwick from Ahmedabad and Amristar will be operated with the 777-300ER, replacing the 787-8 aircraft on the routes.
With the changes, all of Air India's flights to/from Heathrow will be served with aircraft featuring new cabin interiors. 50% of Air India's North America flights will be operated with new or upgraded cabin interiors.
Air India has been in the process of retrofitting 26 legacy 787-8 with brand new cabin interiors and repainting them with the airline's new livery. The first two of the retrofitted aircraft are expected to be back in service in the coming weeks, followed by more retrofitted aircraft throughout 2026.
In addition to the retrofitted and repainted 787-8s, Air India expects deliveries of three new, line-fit 787-9s and two line-fit Airbus A350-1000 aircraft this year.
