As diplomatic relations were restored between India and China, Air India announced it will resume flights between Delhi and Shanghai next February 2026.
From February 1, 2026, the Gurugram, India-based airline will operate four weekly flights between Delhi and Shanghai Pudong (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday). Using a two-class Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft featuring 18 flat Business Class beds and 238 Economy seats, the Delhi-Shanghai route will be the first by Air India to Mainland China after nearly six years.
According to Air India, the airline intends to launch flights between Mumbai and Shanghai in 2026 – subject to government approvals.
In a statement,Air India Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director Campbell Wilson said: “At Air India, we are happy to reconnect one of the world’s most vital air corridors, enabling travellers to pursue opportunities in business, trade, healthcare, education and culture with the comfort and warm Indian hospitality that define Air India.”
Shanghai will be Air India Group's 48th international destination.
