AirAsia Malaysia (AK) is expanding its services to Indonesia with the resumption of flights from Kuala Lumpur to the cities of Palembang and Semarang.
As the two airports serving the cities of Palembang (Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport) and Semarang (Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport) reopen for international flight services, AirAsia will operate daily flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Palembang route starting July 17. Daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Semarang will be launched later on September 5.
Palembang is the capital of the Indonesian province of South Sumatra and the second-largest city on the island of Sumatra. Meanwhile, Semarang is the capital city of Central Java.
“This launch reflects our ongoing efforts to serve more cities across Indonesia, especially those that have been underserved.” said Dato' Captain Fareh Mazputra, CEO, AirAsia Malaysia. “We are proud to return to Palembang and Semarang and we were among the first to reopen seats to both PLM and SRG reaffirming our commitment to these key destinations, two vibrant cities that deserve a wider audience. Each new route opens up more opportunities for business, tourism and for people to reconnect.”
With the addition of the two routes, AirAsia Malaysia will offer a total of around 188 weekly flights to 15 destinations across Indonesia. From Kuala Lumpur, the airline operates flights to Jakarta, Denpasar (Bali), Medan, Yogyakarta, Banda Aceh, Makassar, Padang, Pekanbaru, Balikpapan, Labuan Bajo, and Lombok. Flights are also operated from Penang to Jakarta and Medan.
