AirAsia (Malaysia) is extending its Kuala Lumpur-Kaoshiung flights with a new continuing service to Osaka.

From June 15, AirAsia will operate the Kuala Lumpur-Kaoshiung-Osaka (Kansai) service daily. From Kuala Lumpur, the outbound flight AK170 will depart at 0255H and arrive at Kaoshiung at 0730H before continuing onward to Osaka at 0830H. The return flight – AK171 – will depart Osaka at 1345H and arrive at Kaoshiung at 1600H, before continuing onward to Kuala Lumpur at 1700H.

AirAsia currently operates four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kaoshiung.

The addition of the new Fifth-Freedom route between Kaoshiung and Osaka will be AirAsia's second between Taiwan and Japan. The budget carrier previously launched flights connecting Kota Kinabalu and Fukuoka via Taipei Taoyuan last year.

“The strong demand for our first fifth-freedom route between Taipei and Fukuoka last year is a clear testament to the success of this strategy, “ said Dato' Captain Fareh Mazputra, General Manager, AirAsia Malaysia. “Building on this momentum, we are now introducing the new Kaohsiung-Osaka route as part of our ongoing network expansion, where we strengthen existing routes while unlocking new market opportunities.”

AirAsia X currently operates two daily direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and a daily flight to Taipei. Other group carriers at Kansai include AirAsia Philippines (Manila)  and Thai AirAsia X (Bangkok Don Mueang).
