AirAsia is expanding its network from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia – its second-largest hub – with the launch of a new route to Fukuoka, Japan via Taipei.
From August 15, the Malaysia-based AirAsia will extend its current daily service from Kota Kinabalu to Taipei-Taoyuan (AK1510/AK1511) with the Fifth-Freedom, onward service to Fukuoka. The outbound Taipei-Fukuoka service will depart 1155H and arrive at 1515H, while the return flight will depart Fukuoka at 1700H and arrive back in Taipei at 1830H.
While the current departure and arrival times for flight AK1510 will remain (ETD: 0740H and ETA: 1055H), the departure time of the return flight from Taipei will be shifted from 1135H to 1915H. The return flight will then arrive in Taipei at 2250H.
“We are excited to launch this new fifth-freedom flight from Taipei to Fukuoka, marking another significant milestone as we continue to explore new opportunities from our Kota Kinabalu hub,” said Dato' Captain Farezh Mazputra, CEO, AirAsia Malaysia. “Since reinstating the Kota Kinabalu-Taipei route three years ago, we have flown more than 130,000 guests, and the numbers continue to grow.”
The new service will add to Thai AirAsia's four-times weekly service from Bangkok Don Mueang to Fukuoka.
With the addition of Fukuoka, the international network from Kota Kinabalu will grow to 13 destinations. The airline will operate 79 weekly international flights from its second-largest hub in Malaysia.
AirAsia will compete with Taiwan-based Tigerair Taiwan, China Airlines, EVA Air, and STARLUX on the Taipei-Fukuoka route.
