China has secured new commitments for its locally made regional jet – the COMAC C909 (formerly the ARJ-21) – from Air Cambodia.

Reported by China Daily, the Cambodian national flag carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with COMAC for 20 C909s – including 10 firm orders and 10 letter-of-intent orders.

The new order – once finalized – will be the largest order for the C909 by a non-Chinese airline. Air Cambodia (formerly Cambodia Angkor Air) will become the fourth airline from outside China to operate the C909. The aircraft are currently operated by Indonesia's TransNusa, Vietnam's Vietjet (leased from Chengdu Airlines),  and Lao Airlines.

According to COMAC, the two companies will collaborate closely on aircraft delivery, operational support, and industry development.

Based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Air Cambodia's fleet comprises of around 6 aircraft. The airline operates 3 Airbus A321/A320 narrowbody aircraft, and 3 ATR-72s.
