China Airlines is expanding its network in the United States and North America with its first-ever flights to the city of Phoenix, Arizona, USA before year's end.

The Taipei, Taiwan-based carrier announced the new service – the first to Phoenix by an Asia-based airline - will be launched on December 3, operating three-times weekly (Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday). Using Airbus A360-900 aircraft, the outbound flight will be a direct flight from Taipei to Phoenix, while the return flight will make a stopover in Los Angeles on the way back to Taipei.

Operating as CI36, the outbound flight will depart Taipei Taoyuan International Airport at 1055H and arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 0800H. The return flight – CI35 – will depart from Phoenix at 1155H and arrive at 1220H. It will then continue on back to Taipei, arriving at 2130H the following day.

According to China Airlines, the new route to Phoenix will offer connecting options through its partnership with Southwest Airlines. The flight schedules for the Taipei-Phoenix service will allow customers to take advantage of interline ticketing to transfer to their connecting flight to more than 30 cities in the US.

With the addition of Phoenix, China Airlines will offer flights to seven cities in North America – 6 in the US and 1 in Canada. The airline currently operates around 40 weekly flights to New York-JFK, Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, and Seattle in the US along with Vancouver, Canada.
