Ahead of the delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, China Airlines announced plans to operate the aircraft on its flights to Bangkok and Tokyo.
According to a report from Taiwan's CNA published on October 26, China Airlines' President Chen Han-ming said during a press event in Thailand that the delivery of the airline's first 787-9 – the first of a total of 24 787s ordered by China Airlines – will take place during the first quarter of 2026 (1Q 2026). Following the delivery, the airline will use the aircraft on flights to Bangkok and Tokyo from June 2026.
China Airlines will use the 787s to replace its current fleet of Airbus A330s, which are used on regional and medium-haul routes from Taiwan to cities within Asia.
The Taipei, Taiwan-based airline placed an order with Boeing for up to 24 787 Dreamliners in September 2022 – including a firm order for 16 787-9s. The airline then exercised the options for an additional 8 787-9s the following year in 2023, and converted orders for six of the aircraft to the bigger 787-10s.
