China Airlines is the latest airline to announce plans to operate its flights to/from New York JFK Airport at The New Terminal One (NTO) in 2026.
Announced during a signing ceremony, China Airlines' plan to shift its JFK Airport operations to The New Terminal One will support its expansion plans in North America and to enhance its customer experiences at one of the airline's top international gateways.
The NTO is part of New York City Port Authority's USD $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport. Currently built on sites now occupied by the current Terminal 1, the first phase – including the new arrivals and departure halls, and the first 14 gates – is expected to be opened 2026. The project completion is expected to take place in 2030. With a designed area of 2.4 million square feet featuring 23 gates, it will be the largest terminal at JFK Airport.
China Airlines joins 14 other airlines – including 4 SkyTeam partner airlines – who will operate from The New Terminal One. The four other SkyTeam carriers that have committed to shift their JFK operations to the newest terminal project include Air France/KLM, Korean Air, and SAS. Other airlines joining the four SkyTeam partners at The New Terminal One include fellow Taiwan-based EVA Air, Etihad, LOT Polish Airlines, Air Serbia, Neos, Philippine Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Air New Zealand, Royal Air Maroc, and Air China.
"We are honored to partner with China Airlines as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their New York operations. With a shared commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences, we look forward to a long-term partnership with China Airlines as they grow their presence in North America," said Jennifer Aument, CEO, The New Terminal One at JFK.
"With such a promising future of The New Terminal One at JFK, China Airlines also hopes for an efficient construction of the facilities. We look forward to utilizing the latest technology to promote China Airlines and share the excitement of Taiwan with our customers," said Kevin Chen, President of China Airlines.
China Airlines currently operates four weekly flights between Taipei Taoyuan and New York JFK using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. At JFK, the flights arrive and depart at Terminal 2.
