China Eastern is launching a new route to Buenos Aires, Argentina via Auckland before year's end.
Scheduled to start in December 2025, the newly announced trans-Pacific service will operate twice-weekly from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Buenos Aires-Ezeiza International Airport with a stopover at Auckland. The service will extend the airline's daily flights between Shanghai and Auckland.
Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with 316 seats (6 First, 52 Business, and 258 Economy) will replace the current Airbus A330-200 aircraft with 263 seats (17 Business, 246 Economy) currently used between Shanghai and Auckland.
Wang Zhiqing, chairman of China Eastern Air Holding Co Ltd, said: "The new route will definitely become an important nexus between China and New Zealand, as well as the Asia-Pacific region and South America as a whole."
The Shanghai-based airline will be the second carrier from Mainland China to operate flights to South America. Air China currently operates three weekly flights to Sao Paulo, Brazil via Madrid.
While China Eastern will offer a connection to South America from Auckland, Qantas and LATAM Airlines currently operates flights between Sydney and Santiago, Chile.
