Days after Air China's order for 100 COMAC C919s, China Southern is following with its own large order for the Chinese narrowbody jets.
China Southern will be the third Chinese airline to order 100 COMAC C919 aircraft.
Announced days after Air China's order of the same amount, the Guangzhou-based China Southern stated in a stock exchange filing on April 29 the deal with COMAC is valued at around USD $9.9 billion baesd on list prices.
The newly ordered aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2024 and 2031, adding to its fleet which includes 26 ARJ-21 regional jets built by COMAC.
According to COMAC, the C919 program has secured more than 1000 orders for the Chinese-made competitor to Boeing's 737 and Airbus A320 families of aircraft. With China Southern's order, the Chinese state aircraft manufacturer has secured orders for 100 C919s from the country's big three carriers – Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern.
