RECARO Aircraft Seating (RECARO) has announced China Southern will be the first Mainland China-based airline to feature its latest R3 Economy Class seats aboard their Airbus A350-900 fleet.

In a statement, RECARO stated that will install the R3 seats on 10 A350-900s scheduled to be delivered to the Guangzhou, China-based China Southern in the third quarter of 2026.

The R3 seats will feature an enhanced lumbar support, six-way adjustable headrest, and a 13.3-inch 4K IFE (Inflight Entertainment) system.

China Southern joins All Nippon Airways (ANA) as the two Asia-based airlines to introduce the R3 seats onboard their aircraft. Announced in April 2025 during the 2025 Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg, Germany, ANA's introduction of the R3 seats – along with the R4 Premium Class seats – will take place during the fiscal year 2026 aboard its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

"For China Southern Airlines, comfort in our passenger’s travel experience is a top priority. We are proud to partner with RECARO who is renowned for its heritage of delivering highly ergonomic and comfortable seats," says Yongchao Zeng, Executive Vice President, China Southern Air Holding Company Limited.

“The decision of China Southern Airlines to equip their new A350-900 fleet with the RECARO R3 is a testament to the superior quality and innovation RECARO delivers,” says Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO, RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding. “We are proud to support China Southern Airlines in enhancing their passenger experience while providing them with solutions that bring their fleet to the next level.”

The R3 seats will expand RECARO's relationship with China Southern. The airline currently has 8,270 CL3710 seats – the predecessor to the R3 – onboard its aircraft.
