To provide more convenience for travel within the China's Greater Bay Area (GBA), China Southern Airlines will resume the short hop between Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

From July 1, the Guangzhou, China-based airline will resume direct services between the two GBA hubs – Hong Kong and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport – with daily flights using Airbus A320 aircraft.

With a scheduled flight time of just over an hour covering 129 kilometers (~80 miles), China Southern will compete with Cathay Pacific's 10 weekly flights on the route.

While travelers can take other transport options such as high speed rail between the two cities, the flights provide more convenience reducing waiting time and time to go through security checks. It will provide an alternative for travelers to connect via Guangzhou to other destinations worldwide.

The Guangzhou-Hong Kong service will be China Southern's fifth route from Hong Kong, where it currently operates flights to Beijing Daxing, Harbin, Shenuyang, and Urumqi.
