After announcing its plans to launch flights to Washington DC earlier in January, EVA Air reported the new launch date for the new US route: June 26.
Operating four-times weekly, the new Taipei Taoyuan-Washington Dulles flights will depart as BR04 from Taipei every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 1930H and arrive at Dulles Airport at 2230H. The return flight will depart the following day (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) as BR03 at 0150H, arriving back at Taipei at 0545H the following morning.
EVA Air will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft with a three-class configuration featuring its Royal Laurel Class, Economy, and its new fourth-generation Premium Economy Class.
“North America has long been a key strategic market for EVA Air,” said EVA Air President Clay Sun. “Following the launch of our Dallas-Fort Worth route last year, which made us the only airline in Asia to serve two destinations in Texas, we are further expanding our U.S. network with nonstop service to Washington, D.C. This strengthens our presence on the East Coast and allows us to better serve one of the nation’s most influential markets, home to the political heart of the U.S. and a high concentration of global enterprises.” President Clay Sun added, “The addition of the Washington, D.C. route strengthens our North American network, while providing passengers with more flexible, efficient, and comfortable travel options.”
“We extend a warm welcome to EVA Air and their new service to Washington Dulles International Airport,” said Chryssa Westerlund, executive vice president and chief revenue officer of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. “This new nonstop flight will significantly reduce existing travel times between Taipei and Washington, D.C. In addition, EVA Air will offer travelers seamless connections across Asia from their global hub at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. This flight is estimated to generate more than $61 million in annual economic impact to the U.S. National Capital region. Today’s announcement supports Washington Dulles’ position as the international gateway to Washington, D.C.”
With the new route to Washington DC, EVA Air will operate a combined total of 98 weekly flights to 10 destinations in North America. EVA Air currently operates flights to 7 US destinations: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and New York-JFK.
Along with its direct flights to North America, EVA Air's partnerships with Star Alliance members including Air Canada, United, Avianca, and Copa Airlines, along with cooperation with airlines such as Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, Hawaiian Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and WestJet extends its network to more than 200 destinations in the Americas.
EVA Air's Dulles-Taipei route will be the fourth direct air link to East Asia from the Washington DC-area hub. Star Alliance and Joint Venture partners United and All Nippon Airways (ANA) operates flights from Dulles to Tokyo Haneda. Korean Air operates direct flights to Seoul Incheon, and Air China to Beijing-Capital.
