As Etihad completed its inaugural flight to Hong Kong, the Abu Dhabi, UAE-based carrier announced the relaunch of its codeshare partnership and reciprocal loyalty agreement with Hong Kong Airlines.

Under the codeshare partnership, Hong Kong Airlines' flights between Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi are now bookable as Etihad EY services. Travelers can fly Etihad to popular Japanese destinations on Hong Kong Airlines' operated flights under the HX code to Fukuoka, Hokkaido-Sapporo, Osaka, and Okinawa.

Members of Hong Kong Airlines' Fortune Wings Club and Etihad Guest will be able to enjoy reciprocal earn-and-redeem functionalities across both full networks. Etihad states it will build upon its current partnership with Hainan Airlines, as Fortune Wings Clubs members can collect and redeem points on Etihad's newly launched flights to/from Hong Kong.

Etihad and Hong Kong Airlines previously launched a codeshare partnership in 2014. With the return of Hong Kong Airlines, Etihad states its Etihad Guest program has the largest airline partner portfolio worldwide as a non-alliance loyalty program.

“This partnership delivers meaningful value to Etihad Guest members through full earn-and-redeem access across Hong Kong Airlines’ network, complemented by codeshare connectivity to high-demand Japanese destinations,” said Arik De, Chief Revenue Officer and Commercial Officer, Etihad Airways. “It underscores our commitment to providing our loyal guests with greater flexibility, broader reach, and superior rewards.”

Louis Li, Executive Vice President, Hong Kong Airlines added: “This partnership marks an important milestone in Hong Kong Airlines’ return to the international market. The expansion of our codeshare and the launch of a reciprocal loyalty programme not only benefit travellers from both airlines but also lay the foundation for deepened commercial collaboration.”

On November 3, Etihad operated its inaugural Abu Dhabi-Hong Kong flight. Using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, the airline currently operates five weekly flights on the route.
