Gulf Air has announced plans to return to New York – its first route to the US and North America after a more than two decade-long absence.

From October 1, the national carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain will operate three weekly flights between Bahrain and New York JFK. Gulf Air will use its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on the route which it last served in 1997.
Gulf Air's 787-9s featuring 282 seats in a two-class configuration including 26 fully-flat Falcon Gold beds, and 256 seats in Economy. Each seat features USB ports and in-seat power supply and entertainment touch screens. The aircraft also features inflight Wi-Fi.
"We are excited to announce the launch of our direct flights to New York’s JFK and our return to the North American market,” said Jeffrey Goh, Chief Executive Officer, Gulf Air Group. “This service aligns with Gulf Air's strategy of calibrated expansion and serving strategic markets, providing passengers with greater choice and convenience for travel, through Bahrain International Airport, between Bahrain and North America, and beyond, supporting the connectivity strategy of the Kingdom.”
Upon its return to New York, Gulf Air will operate its flights at the current Terminal One at JFK Airport. The airline plans to transfer its operations to the JFK Airport's New Terminal One in June 2026.
