Korea's Hanjin Group plans to consolidate its airline brands into Korean Air and budget brand Jin Air.
During a recent New Year's message to Hanjin Group employees, Hanjin Group and Korean Air Chairman and CEO Cho Won-tae (Walter Cho) explained the integration plans and the reasons for the move.
Under the plan, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines will become an integrated Korean Air. The group's three budget brands – Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul – will become an integrated Jin Air.
According to Cho, the Korean Air-Asiana integration is expected to be completed by year's end. The integration of the three budget brands is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.
Cho explained the move to integrate the group's aviation sector will generate synergy with land logistics and transportation sectors, saying: “This year should not be a period of preparation for integration but a time to adapt by creating a system equivalent to actual integration.”
Upon the completion of the airline brand integrations, full-service Korean Air will operate around 240 aircraft while budget carrier Jin Air will have 60.
