Hong Kong Airlines will expand its services to Australia with the addition of Melbourne to its network before year's end.

From December 12, Hong Kong Airlines will operate three weekly flights between Hong Kong and Melbourne (outbound – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday/return – Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). The airline will use its Airbus A330 aircraft on the route.

According to Hong Kong Airlines, the flight schedule is times for convenient connections via Hong Kong to popular destinations including Vancouver, Denpasar (Bali), Tokyo, and Osaka. Similarly, travelers from cities in Japan and Mainland China such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, Haikou, Sanya, and Fukuoka can make connections at Hong Kong to Melbourne.

With the addition of Melbourne, Hong Kong Airlines will operate flights to three cities in Australia. The airline resumed flights to Gold Coast in January, followed by the launch of flights to Sydney in June.

"This has been a year of significant progress for our Australian market strategy,” said Jeff Sun, President, Hong Kong Airlines. “Following the resumption of our Gold Coast service in January and the launch of our Sydney route in June, we are delighted to add Melbourne as another key destination within just six months.”

“This new service will not only provide passengers a competitive and high-quality travel option but will also cater to the diverse needs of business and leisure travellers, further deepening the trade, cultural, and tourism ties between Hong Kong and Melbourne,” Sun added.

According to Melbourne Airport, Hong Kong is the fourth largest international market at Melbourne. Hong Kong Airlines will be the third airline to offer flights between the two cities, which is currently served by Cathay Pacific with around 19 weekly flights and Qantas with 7 weekly (daily).
