Travelers making connections at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will now be able to enjoy free tours within the city during their layover.
Launched by HKIA's operator Airport Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) in partnership with Trip.com, transfer passengers will be able to select tours featuring attractions in the city in between flights. Upon arrival at HKIA, passengers who book their tours will have fast-track immigration clearance both upon arrival and departure.
The tours are designed to be completed within half a day. Among the tour options include a “Heritage and Loyal Lifestyle Citywalk” which provides guided walks through the historical neighborhoods of Hong Kong. Another tour named “Victoria & West Kowloon Waterfront Journey” features the city's harbor views during the evening. In December, HKIA will introduce a new tour of the city's countryside - “Serenity & Stories: A Harmony Journey.”
To join the tours, the passenger will need to have a layover of at least seven hours and meet the valid visa and entry requirements to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). Eligible travelers can pre-book their tours online or register at the airport upon arrival.
During the launch ceremony for the layover tours, AAHK Chief Executive Officer Vivian Cheung said: “We are delighted to introduce the new free local tour service for transfer passengers at HKIA to turn transit time into cultural exploration opportunities. With the support from Trip.com, we look forward to presenting Hong Kong’s unique beauty to travellers from around the world and promoting tourism, through which we aim to attract more passengers to transfer at Hong Kong and strengthen HKIA’s position as a premier international aviation hub.”
The introduction of the free layover tours is part of the HKIA's wider Transfer Program, as the airport will introduce other activities for transit travelers such as interactive mobile games and cultural workshops. AAHK stated more services are scheduled in the coming months.
