Travelers departing from the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)  will pay more in security fees next year.

In a release, the Airports Authority of Hong Kong (AAHK) announced the Passenger Security Charge (PSC) - collected by airlines on the behalf of AAHK from departing passengers from HKIA – is scheduled to be increased from January 1, 2025. Currently at HKD $55 (~USD $7), the PSC will be raised by HKD $10 to HKD $65 (~USD $8.30).

Following the initial increase, AAHK stated the PSC could be increased in phases to HKD $75 (~USD $9.60) from 2027 subject to passenger traffic growth and prevailing passenger traffic demand at HKIA.

The adjusted PSC will not be applied to tickets issued before January 1, 2025 even if travel will take place on or after that date.

AAHK stated that the PSC increase “will provide funding for further upgrading the airport’s security facilities and systems by installing a smart passenger security screening system, replacing the hold baggage screening system, and expanding the security coverage to related areas under the Three-runway System.”

The AAHK last adjusted the HKIA PSC in 2021.
