The number of flight slots (aircraft takeoffs and landings permitted) per hour at Incheon International Airport will increase from 78 to 80, which will allow the airport to accommodate more flights and boost passenger traffic at Seoul and South Korea's main international air hub.
In an announcement posted on March 30, airport operator Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) said the flight slot expansion is expected to enable an additional 10,220 flights and supply 2.38 million more seats per year.
During the summer season (March 29-October 24), the average daily number of scheduled flights at Incheon Airport is expected to reach around 1,260 – a 9.1% increase compared to the previous summer (Summer 2025 – 1,159 flights).
IIAC said the additional flights slots – which will total around 24 more per day – will be preferentially allocated to strengthen regional connectivity including the Incheon-Jeju route (resuming May) and additional flights between Incheon and Busan Gimhae. Slots will also be given for connecting key transfer routes such as those between Southeast Asia and the Americas, and cargo flights.
The additional flights and capacity follows the extension of Terminal 2, the opening of the fourth runway, and the modernization of security checkpoints which has enabled the airport improve efficiency in handling aircraft takeoffs, landings, and passenger processing.
IIAC stated its 80 flight slots per hour handling will make it the 8th in terms of slot capacity around the world. It is more than double compared to when Incheon Airport was opened in 2001 (38 flight slots per hour).
Last year (2025), Incheon International Airport served a record of over 74 million passengers. The new annual passenger traffic record surpasses its previous record set in 2019 of around 71.17 million. It is a 4.1% increase compared to the nearly 71.16 million served in 2024.
Based on the continued momentum of passenger demand, IIAC expects passenger traffic at Incheon Airport to reach between 75.54-78.55 million in 2026.
