From March 29, IndiGo will operate daily flights between Kolkata and Shanghai Pudong Airport. Usig Airbus A320 aircraft, the new Kolkata-Shanghai route follows the reinstatement of the budget carrier's services to Guangzhou.
The airline currently operates direct flights to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport from both Delhi and Kolkata.
In its announcement, IndiGo's Global Head of Sales Vinay Malhotra said: “This development underscores our commitment to connecting India to key global destinations. Shanghai is the country’s biggest city, a global financial hub, and famous for its dazzling futuristic skyline complemented with historic architecture. This addition to our network will play an important role in facilitating bilateral trade and is expected to boost tourism and promote greater cultural exchange between the two nations.”
Separately, IndiGo announced it will operate three weekly flights (Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday) between Chennai and Réunion Island from April 29 using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Located between Madagascar and Mauritius, the French overseas territory in the Indian Ocean will be IndiGo's 46th international destination and the 13th from Chennai.
