IndiGo has signed a lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways (Norse Atlantic) for its fifth and sixth Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

IndiGo has signed a lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways (Norse Atlantic) for its fifth and sixth Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The Indian budget airline announced it signed the firm lease agreement with Norse Atlantic for the additional two 787-9s - its fifth and sixth – completing the Letter of Intent (LoI) signed by the two airlines in November 2024.

According to IndiGo, the two 787s are expected to join its fleet along with the four other 787s already covered by previous lease agreements with Norse Atlantic by early 2026. The initial term of the lease is six months, and can be extended up to an additional 18 months subject to approvals.

In a statement, Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo said: “This move reinforces our commitment to international growth and our customers, promising to introduce more options on long-haul routes. As we accelerate towards our vision of becoming a global airline by 2030, this partnership enables us to bolster our wide-body operations while staying rooted in our India-first approach.”

"This agreement represents an important milestone in our collaboration with IndiGo and reinforces our partnership with one of the world's leading airlines. The wet lease agreement with a total of six aircraft means that we further strengthen our strategic and financial position in a volatile market", says Bjørn Tore Larsen, CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways.

IndiGo previously received the first of the six leased 787-9 back in March, and introduced the widebody jets on its flights between Delhi and Bangkok.
