Indian budget airline IndiGo has announced its plans to be the inaugural airline operator at Mumbai's newest airport - the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA).


Both IndiGo and NMIA's operator Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) announced the budget airline will be the inaugural airline operator at NMIA after its inauguration tthat is currently scheduled to take place in June. IndiGo will operate 18 daily departures (35 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs)) from NMIA to over 15 cities before an increase to 79 daily departures (158 ATMs) including 14 international flights by November.


By March 2026, IndiGo plans to further increase its flights at NMIA to over 100 daily departures (200 ATMs) before going up to 140 daily departures (280 ATMs) by November 2026. The airline plans to operate 30 international flights by the end of 2026.


In a statement, IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said: “This expansion underscores our dedication to catering to the evolving needs of our aspirational travellers and further contributing to the growth of India's booming aviation sector. The new flights from the brand-new NMIA will elevate the travel experience of our customers while enjoying affordable, on-time hassle-free services on our unparalleled network."

Located around 30 kilometers east of Mumbai, the NMIA will be the second major airport to serve the city which is currently served by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Covering an area of over 1,160 hectares with two runways, the NMIA will have a capacity of 20 million passengers during the initial phase. The airport is designed for a maximum capacity of 90 million passengers per year.


IndiGo previously operated the first test flights at NMIA in December 2024.
