Japan Airlines (JAL) and IndiGo have announced they have agreed to a codeshare partnership to enhance travel options between Japan and India.

Scheduled to start during the winter 2024 season, the codeshare partnership between JAL and IndiGo will cover domestic routes within India that connect onto JAL's flights to/from Delhi and Bengaluru.

Through the partnership, JAL customers can connect onto IndiGo operated flights from Delhi and Bengaluru to 14 domestic destinations including Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Goa, and Chennai. The JAL-operated routes covered in the agreement are the daily flights between Tokyo-Haneda and Delhi, and thrice-weekly flights between Tokyo-Narita and Bengaluru.

Abhijit DasGupta, Senior Vice President Network Planning & Revenue Management, IndiGo said: “We are pleased to expand our portfolio of codeshare partnerships with this agreement with Japan Airlines. Japan has been increasing in popularity amongst Indian travellers, as both countries are working to strengthen bilateral relationships and ease the visa norms.”

Ross Leggett, Managing Executive Officer, Senior Vice President Route Marketing, Japan Airlines, added: “We are excited to announce our new codeshare partnership with IndiGo, having the largest domestic network in India, and offering high-quality service to customers. With the extensive network, travelers to/from India and Japan will be able to book their flight on one ticket, and experience both IndiGo and JAL’s exceptional service.”

The codeshare partnership between JAL and Indigo is the second between airlines from India and Japan announced this year. In late April, Star Alliance carriers All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Air India announced their own partnership covering flights between Japan and India.
