Qantas Group's budget subsidiary Jetstar will launch its first route to Sri Lanka which will connect Melbourne and Colombo next year.

Starting August 25, 2026, Jetstar will operate three weekly flights (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) between Melbourne and Colombo. The outbound flight – JQ5 – will depart Melbourne at 1200H before arriving at Colombo at 1750H. The return flight – JQ6 – will depart Colombo at 1950H and arrive back at Melbourne at 1000H the following morning.

According to Jetstar, the airline will use its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft which are currently being upgraded. 100,000 seats will be available for travelers on the new year-round route.

“This new route out of our home base of Melbourne is part of a huge growth phase for Jetstar,” said Stephanie Tully, CEO, Jetstar. “We’ve added new destinations, more aircraft and we’re continuing to expand our international network to give travellers even more choice and opportunities to take off for less.”

Jetstar will be the only Australian and budget airline to offer direct flights between Melbourne and Colombo. SriLankan currently operates daily flights on the route. Travelers can also choose one-stop connections in cities such as Singapore or Kuala Lumpur.

Colombo will be Jetstar's 10th international route from Melbourne.
