Korean Air has announced its plan for the integration of Asiana's Asiana Club and Korean Air's SKYPASS programs, which will see the integration of Asiana Mileage into SKYPASS after ten years.

The Seoul, South Korea-based airline reported its the mileage program integration plan to the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) on June 12 before a revised version was submitted on September 25. Following the submission of the revised plan, the KFTC is currently conducting a two-week public consultation period before issuing a final approval.

According to Korean Air, Asiana Club mileage – including mileage redemptions following Asiana's current rates - will be maintained as former Asiana Mileage for 10 years after the integration. At the end of the 10-year period, all remaining balances will be automatically converted to SKYPASS miles.

Customers holding former Asiana Mileage can continue to redeem them for Korean Air Economy and Prestige Class award tickets or upgrade awards using Asiana's current redemption levels. First Class award tickets or upgradees not included on Asiana's program will not be available.

Other options that will be available will be cash and miles payments, and mileage shopping.

Following the integration, all newly earned flight and partner miles will be credited exclusively as SKYPASS miles. Asiana's elite members (Platinum, Diamond Plus, Diamond, Gold) will be status matched to the equivalent elite tiers in the SKYPASS program.

In addition, Korean Air will expand its elite tiers from three (Million Miler, Morning Calm Premium, and Morning Calm) to four with the introduction of Morning Calm Select which will provide SkyTeam Elite Plus benefits. Morning Calm members will be divided into Morning Calm Select and Morning Calm tiers depending on qualifications.

During the 10-year integration period, Asiana Club members can convert their miles to SKYPASS miles at any time through a request on Korean Air's website. The conversion ratios are 1:1 for flight-accrued miles and 1:082 for partner-accrued miles.

Korean Air states the conversion rates were made in consultation with the KFTC. The 1:1 ratio for flight miles reflects the similar accrual standards of both airlines, while the 1:082 ratio for partners miles is based on an analysis of the respective acquisition costs.

With the integration, former Asiana Mileage holders will be able to redeem miles on 59 Korean Air-operated routes including Washington DC, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Auckland.

Korean Air remains committed to expanding mileage redemption opportunities and enhancing member benefits across the newly integrated global network,” the airline concluded in its announcement.
