After a two year suspension, the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will resume its rail link connecting KLIA Terminal 1 and its satellite terminal next month.

Following upgrade work and ongoing testing, Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke told reporters during trial run of the new aerotrain system it will open at 1000H on July 1.

The new KLIA aerotrain system will feature three carriages with a total capacity of 270 passengers (90 each carriage). Two coaches will operate during peak hours, which will be decreased to just one during the off-peak hours from 0000H to 0500H.

“I am happy to announce that we are entering the final phase of testings in the coming days, Loke said.  “If all goes smoothly, we have decided to reopen the train service at 10am on July 1.”

Upon the opening of the aerotrain, the existing bus service will remain operational to support the aerotrain system.

First opened in 1998, the aerotrain between the main terminal building and the satellite terminal was suspended in March 2023 following a breakdown.
