The Mactan Cebu International Airport has reported a new all-time monthly Passenger Traffic Record in January 2026, serving 1.3 million passengers during the first month of the year.
According to airport operator Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (Aboitiz InfraCapital), the 1.3 million served during the last month represents a 15% increase compared to the same month in 2025 (1.1 million). Year-to-year domestic traffic rose by 12% and international traffic by 25%.
The new Passenger Traffic Record has been attributed to the influx of tourists and returning Filipinos celebrating the Sinulog festival, the opening of new international routes and the entry of new airline partners.
In 2025, Mactan Cebu Airport saw the introduction of 8 new routes and several foreign airlines such as Australian-based Jetstar Airways, Vietnam Airlines, Malaysia Aviation Group's Firefly Airlines, and South Korea-based Aero-K.
"This exceptional start to 2026 is a testament to the growing demand for Cebu as a global destination and a key transit hub," said Athanasios Titonis, Chief Executive Officer of Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation (ACAC). "Our strategic efforts to expand our network—bringing in new partners like Vietnam Airlines, Aero-K, Jetstar Airways and Firefly Airlines, and opening direct links to cities like Hanoi, Cheongju, Brisbane, and Macau—are bearing fruit. We are committed to maintaining this momentum by ensuring that every passenger experiences the warmth and efficiency of MCIA."
"These figures reflect the strong collaboration between the government and our private sector partners as the ideal entry point to the Philippines," said Julius G. Neri, Jr., General Manager and CEO of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA). "We are optimistic that this upward trajectory will continue as we open more doors to the world."
In 2025, the Mactan Cebu International Airport – the Philippines second busiest air hub - served a record 11.6 million passengers – a 3% from the previous year (2024 – 11.3 million).
