In a statement from MAG, Malaysia Airlines will start daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport starting January 9, 2026.
“This expansion reinforces its presence in one of the region’s fastest-growing markets for both business and leisure travel, further supported by the recent introduction of reciprocal visa-free entry between Malaysia and China,” MAG said in a statement.
Malaysia Airlines' Mainland China network includes Beijing Daxing, Shanghai Pudong, Guangzhou, and Xiamen.
Separately, MAG's Firefly will launch new routes to three destinations in Southeast Asia starting November – Krabi, Siem Reap, and Cebu.
From Kuala Lumpur, Firefly will start seven weekly flights to Krabi starting November 17, three-times weekly (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) to Siem Reap starting November 27, and five-times weekly (Tuesday-Sunday) to Cebu starting December 2.
Service Increases
In addition to the new routes, MAG announced service increases across its network beginning October 2025.
The additional services is highlighted with the deployment of its Airbus A330neo aircraft on select routes to Australia and New Zealand. Malaysia Airlines will increase flights from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide (5 to 7 times weekly starting February 1, 2026), Perth (12 to 14 times weekly starting December 1), Melbourne (18 to 21 times weekly) from October 30), Sydney (18 to 21 times weekly starting October 31), and Auckland (8 to 10 times weekly from October 26).
Cities in East Asia and South Asia that will see service increases by Malaysia Airlines include Xiamen (3 to 4 times weekly from November 1), Trivandrum (5 to 7 times weekly from December 1), Ahmedabad (4 to 5 times weekly from October 26), Maldives (7 to 11 times weekly from October 26), and Dhaka (14 to 21 times weekly from Novemebr 5).
Firefly routes that will see service increases include services from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, Johor Bahru, Kelantan, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Terengganu, Sibu. In addition flights will be increased on the airline's Penang-Langkawi, Subang-Johor Bahru, and Subang-Penang routes.
