Qatar Airways and China Southern have announced an expansion of its codeshare partnership and an increase in flight frequencies between Doha and Beijing.
Building on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two airlines last year, Qatar Airways will add its QR flight code on China Southern's upcoming thrice-weekly service between Beijing Daxing and Doha starting October 16. The Guangzhou-based airline will also extend its codes to flights between Doha and four points in China – Chengdu Tianfu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.
Qatar Airways currently operates daily flights between Daxing and Doha. In addition, the airline's other China-based partner – Xiamen Air – also operates flights on the route.
In return, China Southern will add its CZ flight code on flights beyond Doha to 15 destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East operated by Qatar Airways. Cities included are Amman, Athens, Barcelona, Cairo, Dar es Salam, Madrid, and Munich.
“This latest expansion ensures that every Qatar Airways route to China is now accessible to China Southern Airlines’ passengers, underlining our long-term commitment to a market that is integral to our growth and connectivity,” said Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer, Qatar Airways.
Since April 2024, Qatar Airways has placed its flight code on China Southern-operated flights between Guangzhou and Doha.
With its two Chinese-based partners, Qatar Airways stated it offers 64 weekly flights to eight cities in China.
