Scoot – the budget subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA) - has operated the first flight using its new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft today (May 7).

Operating as TR684, the inaugural flight – using the E190-E2 named “Explorer 2.0” - departed Singapore's Changi Airport in the mid afternoon bound for Krabi, Thailand. Later in the evening after the return flight from Krabi, the aircraft will then be used on its inaugural flight to Hat Yai, Thailand in the evening as TR630.

Ahead of the inaugural flight, Scoot held a launch event at Changi Airport attended by aviation partners, local and regional media, and officials such as Singapore's Minister of Transport Chee Hong Tat. Guests who attended the event got a first look of the interior of the E190-E2 aircraft.

Announced in May 2023, Scoot acquired nine E190-E2 aircraft through lease from aviation leasing company Azorra. The airline has received two of the aircraft, with the remaining seven to be delivered by the end of 2025. The aircraft are equipped with 112 seats in a 2-2 single-class configuration.

According to Scoot, the second aircraft is currently in the final phase of preparations for operations.

“The E190-E2 with its modern operating capabilities and fuel-efficient credentials, was a natural choice as we looked to grow Scoot's fleet,” said Leslie Thng, Scoot's CEO. “We are confident that with this new-generation aircraft, we will continue to strengthen our presence in the region, enhance our connectivity to non-metro destinations and provide our customers with even more memorable travel experiences.”

Representing Embraer, Martyn Holmes, Chief Commercial Officer of Embraer Commercial Aviation congratulated the Singapore-based budget carrier saying: “We are proud to see the modern and fuel-efficient E2 aircraft grace the skies over Singapore and Southeast Asia and would like to thank all the involved stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this possible.”

Following the inaugural E190-E2 flights to Krabi and Hat Yai, Scoot will deploy the latest addition to its fleet on flights to Koh Samui (May 13), Miri (May 20), Kuantan (June 3), and Sibu (June 5).
