Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced it will launch daily direct flights from Singapore to Sydney's new airport – the Western Sydney International Airport (Nancy-Bird Walton Airport – WSI) on November 23.

The Singapore flag carrier's daily flights will depart Singapore as SQ201 at 1130H and arrive at 2220H. The return flight SQ202 will depart Western Sydney at 2355H before arriving back at Singapore the following morning at 0505H.

Singapore Airlines will use its Medium-Haul Airbus A350-900 aircraft with 303 seats in a two-class configuration – 40 Business and 263 Economy.

The new daily service to Western Sydney Airport will add to Singapore Airline's four-times daily flights to Sydney's current hub - Kingsford Smith International Airport.

Dai Haoyu, Singapore Airlines' Senior Vice President Marketing Planning said: “Singapore Airlines’ services to Australia’s newest gateway at Western Sydney will deliver more choice and strengthen connectivity to this popular destination for our customers. Western Sydney’s late-night departure capacity will enable a seamless travel journey and connections through Singapore Changi Airport, to more than 130 global destinations served by the SIA Group.”

“Western Sydney International Airport is thrilled to be partnering with Singapore Airlines, bringing more of its Skytrax certified 5-Star service to the people of Greater Sydney,” said Simon Hickey, WSI Chief Executive Officer. “Our 24-hour capacity, coupled with Singapore Airlines’ extensive global connectivity, will open our city to the world in new and exciting ways. From Sydney to Singapore and beyond, we are pleased to help herald this new era of aviation that will ultimately give Australian travellers more choice and flexibility on when, where, and how they choose to fly.”

Located around 60 kilometers from the Sydney Central Business District, the Western Sydney International Airport will become the city's only 24/7 international airport when it opens in October.

Singapore Airlines is the fourth airline that has committed to operating flights at the new Sydney-area hub including Qantas/Jetstar, and Air New Zealand.

With the addition of Western Sydney Airport, Singapore Airlines will operate flights to eight destinations in Australia including both Sydney-area hubs (Kingsford Smith and Western Sydney), Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne, and Perth. In addition, SIA Group budget subsidiary Scoot also operates flights to three of those destinations – Sydney (Kingsford Smith), Melbourne, and Perth.
