South Korea's government has approved the resumption of flights between Incheon International Airport and Jeju Island for the first time in a decade.

Part of South Korea's efforts to improve access for foreign visitors to regional destinations, the country's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) approved budget carrier Jeju Air's application to launch flights between Incheon and Jeju starting May 12.

Jeju Air plans to operate two weekly flights on the Incheon-Jeju route with flights on Tuesday and Saturday during May, before shifting to Monday and Fridays from June. The airline will use Boeing 737-800 or 737-8 (737 MAX 8) aircraft on the route.

Ahead of the launch of the Incheon-Jeju route launch, Jeju Air plans to complete final inspections of domestic check-in facilities and baggage handling systems at Incheon International Airport Terminal 1 and obtain its business plan approval.

In addition to the Incheon-Jeju route, MOLIT announced in February plans to expand domestic transfer flights for international arrivals at Incheon on the Incheon-Busan Gimhae route from 35 to 39 weekly flights in April.

The Incheon-Jeju route resumption will add to the current flights from Seoul Gimpo Airport to Jeju which is also the world's busiest air route. According to OAG, the short route covering 243 nautical miles had around seven airlines with a combined 14.4 million scheduled seats in 2025 – equivalent to almost 39,000 seats available per day.

Incheon is currently Jeju Air's main international hub to/from Seoul, while Gimpo is the main domestic hub in the area.
