THAI Airways International (THAI) announced it will shift from its current weight-based checked baggage policy to one based on the number pieces a passenger checks in.

The new baggage policy – covering domestic and international flights – will be applicable to all tickets purchased, issued, and re-issued from November 25 for travel starting from March 2, 2026. It will be applicable on all domestic routes, TC3 region (Asia, Australia, and New Zealand), and TC2 (Europe, Africa, and the Middle East). All other additional routes will be covered by the new policy from November 28.

Within Thailand (Domestic), each passenger in both Royal Silk Class and Economy – will be allowed 1 piece of checked luggage with weight based on cabin class. Royal Silk Class will have a weight allowance of 32kg while passengers in Economy will have 23kg. An additional piece of luggage will be allowed with an infant without a seat per the accompanying adult's applicable allowance.

On international routes, Royal First Class passengers will be able to check-in 3 pieces of luggage – 32kg each. Those traveling on tickets redeemed will be able to travel with 2 pieces – also at 32kg each.

Royal Silk Class (including award redemption) and Premium Economy Plus passengers will be able to travel with 2 pieces at 32kg each.

Premium Economy Class passengers will also be allowed 2 pieces at 23kg each.

Baggage allowance for Economy Class passengers will be based on the the fare class. Economy Flex/Full Flex will have 2 pieces at 23kg each. All other fare classes (Standard/Saver/Redemption) will have 1 piece at 23kg. Infants without the seat will have 1 piece following the adult's applicable allowance.

Regardless of cabin class, each piece of luggage must not exceed a total linear dimension of 158cm (62 inches).

According to THAI, the policy change aims to improve convenience and consistency for international connections and interline travel. It will also provide passengers with a clear and transparent baggage policy and align with THAI's airline partners.
